Time to get creative with The Palace Darling and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ – Chester

Now I’m not the most creative person on the planet (even though I quite fancy myself as the creative type!) so when I was invited last week by the delightful Lucy from The Palace Darling to take part in an Introduction to Annie Sloan chalk paint workshop, I was a little concerned about how successful my morning would turn out to be!!

Let me tell you a little about about this superb and totally unique business in Handbridge, Chester first; The Palace Darling is a craft emporium over 2 floors. Downstairs is a delightful, vintagie shop selling so many gorgeous things, from hand made bunting to craft books, sewing kits, jewellery, scarves and so much more.

Upstairs however is a workshop where Lucy runs a range of ‘crafty courses’ – including Introduction to Upholstery, Lampshade making and of course the Annie Sloan chalk paint courses, which is a very creative way to recycle and refurbish old and unloved pieces of furniture to uber-shabby-chic loveliness!

The Palace Darling is Chester’s official Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ stockist and Lucy has a wide variety of examples of painted furniture showing the various techniques and ways to use the paint (find out more about Annie Sloan using the link here).

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and have to say was quite pleased with my results! This must be down to the flexibility of the chalk paint itself and the superb tuition from Lucy! We were all given a piece of wood, which we segmented into 4 parts – and Lucy demonstrated the different paint techniques with each panel. The colours of the paint are so nice (I particularly liked the duck egg blue and the Henrietta pink – of course!) and I came away really feeling like I could upgrade any piece of furniture for my home – and do you know what, I probably will!!

Annie Sloan introduction to chalk paint courses are just £65pp including materials and its well worth it….
