Fans of BBC 2’s Great British Menu (GBM) can taste chef Matt Worswick’s dishes for themselves, with the launch of the new Tasting Menu at Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa.
Matt took part in this year’s Great British Menu, which was inspired by 100 years of the Women’s Institute (WI) and his heat aired last week. He now goes on to the represent the North West in the final heat after scoring some knockout results including two tens from the judges for his fish course, Grandma’s Garden.
To celebrate Matt’s GBM debut and success, the new Great British Menu tasting menu will be available from 25th September to 31st October in Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa’s three AA rosette fine-dining restaurant, The Lawns.
The six course tasting menu will comprise all four of Matt’s competition dishes as well as two others, each one inspired by his research into the creativity, resourcefulness and culinary skill of the Women’s Institute.
Priced at £80 per person, or £125 per person with an accompanying wine flight, the menu include Game Old Bird – Partridge, blackberries, bread sauce; Grandma’s Garden – Butter poached lobster, baby turnips, peas, mint; Shall I Be Mother – Lamb loin, hotpot, stockpot vegetables; Grandma’s Orchard – Apple crumble, cider brandy ice cream, spiced bread
Matt Worswick, executive chef at Thornton Hall hotel & Spa’s three AA rosette restaurant The Lawns and GBM contender said: “It was such a privilege to take part in Great British Menu and to get better acquainted with the work of the Women’s Institute.
“They are incredibly inspiring and I wanted to use all my research and ideas to create a special tasting menu in recognition of them and the programme. I really can’t wait for people to try it and hope it will be a little less nerve-wracking than going in front of the judges.”
Geoff Dale, general manager of Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa said: “There’s been a huge amount of support for Matt and such a lot of interest in his menu that we thought we’d create a special Great British Menu experience for our diners. It’s for a limited time only though so fans of the programme will need to book quickly.”
