I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am a very lucky lady!
My fabulous job really does take me on some incredibly interesting journeys and gives me the opportunity to meet some amazing people – my recent meeting with a pretty awesome young lady called Jade Paveley was no exception.
Jade is just 22 years old, and is a rally driver. She became professional at the age of 17 after driving her first car at just 7 years of age and started racing go-karts at 15, with her first podium finish at 16.
It was Jade’s successful on-going relationship with Mazda that took her to the next level, and she became the youngest ever driver to compete in a 24 hour race in the UK, with Mazda which earned her yet another podium finish. Impressive.
Jade is supported and mentored by her rally driver father Dave, and mum Sally is never far away either. Dave and Sally have been involved in the world of motor sport throughout their careers, and have looked after some of the most influential people in the UK, at some of the sports’ most prestigious events all over the world.
This is most definitely a family affair, and I was lucky enough to catch up with them all at the launch of the MSV Motorsport News Rally Championship, which started with the Neil Howard Stages at Oulton Park, Cheshire last Saturday where Jade was competing on behalf of the family business, GroupB Motorsport and her own set-up, Jade Paveley Racing.
The Neil Howard Stage Rally made its 4th return to the Cheshire circuit this season, competitors tackle a series of bespoke rally stages, incorporating the venue’s rally course and sections of the track run in both directions, with additional challenges including a water splash.
This event attracts one of the most eclectic entry lists of the season, with everything from the original Austin Mini Cooper S to modern World Rally Championship specials such as the Subaru Impreza, and a legion of iconic 1970s Ford Escorts.
Jade was one of only 2 female drivers out of a field of 120 competitors, and her and her co-driver Sarah increased their position buy over 30 places in the 1st stage at Oulton Park in her a Subaru Impreza WRX STi which was built and maintained by GroupB Motorsport. She is indeed an inspirational young woman.
I am absolutely delighted to have met Jade and her family, and I am looking forward to tracking her and co-driver Sarah’s progress throughout the completion.
