WHAT A TREAT OF AN AFTERNOON at The Wild Goose Restaurant, Chester – full of festive cheer, fabulous food and a surprise performance from CATS!

Whether you feel it’s a little too early or not, there can be no doubt that restaurants and hotels are busy planning for the festive period months in advance. And there are two things that I can’t get enough of; being invited into the kitchen by one of our fabulous Cheshire Chefs, and a bit of Christmas cheer arriving, albeit it a little early, as soon as the Autumn chill sets in.

So I was pleased as punch to be invited by Chef Alyn Jones to help him prep their first ever Christmas menu at The Wild Goose Restaurant, one of our newest and loveliest independent restaurants set in the stunning backdrop of Chester Lakes.

The Wild Goose at Chester Lakes has certainly made a splash since it opened earlier this year and owners Alec and Katy have a lot to be proud of. Chef Alyn is as enthusiastic as he is professional, and quite simply, his food is great! Alyn’s menu is Modern British in the main, but his culinary journeys veering off in different directions give diners an exciting break from the norm. I’m a big fan.

The entire team, led by Manager James are warm, friendly and full of smiles, its always a pleasure to visit – and today was no exception.

The Wild Goose Christmas menu is delicious. I can say this with a huge amount of confidence, as I was lucky enough to taste every single dish today along with the rest of the team – as well as helping Alyn and his brigade in the kitchen. Prepare to be surprised and delighted by this unusual party menu – delicious small plates with oodles of charm rather than the traditional 3 course festive fayre. Enjoy 4 smaller courses (rather than 3 larger), share with your friends and enjoy the warmth and welcome of this gorgeous new Chester venue at everyone’s favourite time of year.

And that’s not all… while we were all pottering about being oh-so Christmassy, a rather lovely – and as it turns out – very talented couple arrived from London. Janie and Rory had arrived for a sound check in plenty of time for the evening’s surprise performance as Singing Waiters. Both were from the cast of CATS and their voices were unbelievable. Thank you to them both for making a fabulous afternoon even more special.

A massive thank you to Donna, James, Alyn and the team, I can’t wait to come back and see you all again soon.
