A couple of weeks ago, we brought you a number of über-stylish, great British brands championed by our favourite lifestyle emporium – Trilby Pheasant in Hawarden.
If you haven’t discovered this gem of a shop – make time very soon to pop in and see Claire and her super team, who will be only too happy to tell you all about their fabulous store and vintage souk.
Today, we are delighted to bring you yet another glorious home-made British brand available right now at Trilby Pheasant – Workhouse Clothing.
Working alongside the craftsmen who helped them restore their Victorian workshop, Workhouse was born out of a renewed appreciation for the hidden beauty in old things. Drawn to images of the Victorian street, they became particularly interested in unposed photographs of street traders and musicians. Whether a distinctive jacket, or a favorite hat, the garments and images where hand made, made to last – and often made for someone else. Formal worn informally, old with new, contrasting fabrics and textures – all with a certain swagger. They wanted to craft garments that captured this.
Specialising in sartorial tailoring using British cloth, Workhouse have been making clothes for over twenty years. At the root of a Workhouse garment is the time and expertise that has been taken to master its fit. Trained at Huntsman on Savile Row, the pattern cutters come to the studio and relish this process, exploring which methods work for a particular design, how best to combine traditional methods and new.
Workhouse prizes sustainability and building local supply chains that sit outside the traditional model. More than just a business, they strive to forge relationships with the like minded individuals, and believe that such commitments are what make their garments unique.
We absolutely love this brand. It seems it was created for devilishly handsome scoundrels – and we all know a couple of those! Crafty, charming gentlemen with a penchant for something of great quality and style.
